The Federal Office of Economics and Export Control (Bundesamt für Wirtschaft und Ausfuhrkontrolle, BAFA) is a higher federal authority within the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (Bundesministeriums für Wirtschaft und Energie, BMWi). It performs federal tasks in foreign trade, economic promotion, auditor supervision and energy. Together with other federal authorities, BAFA works as a licensing authority in the overall area of export policy. In addition, its tasks include implementing import regulations within the framework of the EU's common trade policy. In economic promotion, there are programmes to strengthen the competitiveness of small and medium-sized enterprises.
